I am a filipino living and working in Macau, a special administrative region of China, just like Hongkong. They introduced this new policy where families of migrant worker can no longer be attached to their working visa if they do not meet the salary requirement. Therefore me and my wife decided that we should like to work and stay in Canada to make my family whole. But lately because of the recession, some employment agencies have excuses such as that they are prioritizing their locals for employment. I have some relatives there too, but they have not offered real help, claiming that it is more effective to apply outside Canada. What I am trying to avoid also are some of the fees which can be exorbitant because me and my wife cannot pay in bulk due to our meager salaries. Also we need some advise so that we will have some backgound on the nuances of effectively applying for a job and thereby immigrating there.

Do people in the Philippines understand the economic hardships of Americans in the US?
Wednesday, April 21st, 2010Everywhere I go around here all these Filipinos have this state of mind that the US is paved with gold. That migh have been true back in the past, but life in the US has become more difficult for many Americans. However, the economic hardships today have really changed people’s outlook on their lifestyles back in the US. My mom has friends that are struggling and worried about losing their jobs. Many people have lost their homes and their retirement investments (401K) in these tough economic times. Some people are actually living in tents because they can’t find work.
Yet here in the Philippines all of these peope keep thinking that everyone in the US is rich and living this easy lifestyle. I have ran into some people here that have relatives in the US and they sort of understand the hardships. But that only seems to be a few of the people I’ve met here.
Do people in the Philippines still think that Americans are “rich” and live this glamorous lifestyle? And do they still think that every foreigner that walks the streets of manila are walking ATM’s?

Monday, April 5th, 2010I am believe that 25 % of Filipinos are middleclass and more rich than me a poor American farmer in the USA province. I am moving to Mindanao and with all the relation i will have I might need a business there to give them work as I cannot help many people just be lucky to care myself. My wife tried an internet cafe but we just got 10 peso per hour fees and the rent on the cafe was 6000 p a month and it did not work. The people did not come all day long just after 4 pm until 9 pm was prime time for the cafe. That would be ok if you got 25 peso per hour fees but not 10 peso. I have a sari sari store but it is just so far a break even deal. I own taxi there but they just feed the drivers. I need a business that shows a real profit that many relation can run and help care them. They are good decent honest relatives just alot of them. I was thinking a water business or a basic need business to provide Filipinas with clean safe water or a decent basic need. Any ideas? Someone is making money there because if you look at photos of an SM parking lot they are driving better cars than me in USA and live better. Either they are doctors or they hire alot of workers in a business and make a small wage from each worker. I am still doing a study and just asked opinions. I provide work for filipinos now but I have gotten no return on my investment yet. I need a business that makes a profit for them and me. At least for relations and maybe a wife. I can feed myself.

that most Philippine markets are saturated and in a saturated market you have 3 choices 1. EXIT the market or not start 2. Take the GRAVY meaning JUST the best sales and high profit items, OR 3. Become a profitable surviver and get really big have 100 sari sari stores carrying special products buy in VOLUME at a lower price and sell alot at small % of profit hmmm sounds like business in the USA, I guess I never considered the Philippines being the same as American business just with the STUPID 10 % VAT tax I HAVE TO PAY and in a different economic class structure SO I LEARNED A new way of thinking from everyones answers THANK YOU VERY MUCH !
