…is the inability of money to flow from the wealthiest 1% to the rest of the population?

In western countries, the richest people and their corporations understand the value of employing the middle class (and paying them well) in growing their companies. In this way, money flows down from the top. The middle class then is able to support the economy through this income. The middle class is able to feed, medicate, clothe and house their family adequately. As a byproduct of all this, the percentage of middle class americans grow and their clout in the government rises accordingly.

This mechanism is practically non-existent in the Philippines. Most Filipino corporations pay an inhumane wage for laborers, there are few benefits and these workers have no rights. There is almost an intentional desire to keep them down For the past 30 years now, statistics show that the Philippine middle class has all but evaporated–either to emigrate abroad or to join the ranks of the poor.
